Appleby & Penrith Shows - Food Hamper Prize Draws
The winners of the food hampers were Mrs H. Ellwood of Newby (Appleby
Show) and Mr & Mrs E Titterington of Penrith (Penrith Show).
We would also like to congratulate:

of the Dry Stone Walling Competition, which we sponsor at Penrith Show

Jim Cochrane
Jim died peacefully at home on 3rd May 2010 after a long illness fought
with courage and dignity.
Jim was born and grew up in Dumfries. He qualified as a Chartered Accountant
in 1980 and moved to Edinburgh to join a new office of Pannell, Kerr
and Forster. He moved again in 1984 to join Carlisle firm F Gordon Joynt & Co.
Jim became a partner of O’Reilly’s in 1991 when Joynt and Co was merged
with O’Reilly’s.
He will be sadly missed by clients, staff and fellow partners.
Team news - Spring 2010
After 43 years our longest serving employee Helen Short has
retired from the firm. She was a valued member of staff in the farming
department and we wish her well for the future.
We would like to welcome a new baby into the world, Rachel Marston gave
birth to Olivia Grace in February and our congratulations go to her and
her family.
Congratulations also go to Magdalena Marciniak for
successfully passing the first part of her AAT technician level exams
in December.
Anna Longrigg has now returned to work on a part-time
basis following the birth of her baby boy.

paying our fees
A number of clients are now requesting our bank details in order to
make payment to us via BACS or internet, electronically, as an alternative
to the usual method of paying by cheque. If any clients would like to
pay electronically, please contact us.
issuing of receipts
To attempt to be more environmentally friendly, we intend to change
our system of the automatic issue of receipts, when payment is received
from our clients.
From 1st May, to avoid excess usage of paper and postage, we will only
send out receipts where they are specifically requested.
When sending cheques in settlement, please write our reference number
on the reverse of your cheque for identification purposes. There is no
need to return the original invoice with your payment, this should be
retained for your records.
Office news - Winter 2009
Since Oct 2009, we have held the Skipton Building Society agency
at our Hawes office.
Congratulations to Magdalena Marciniak and Kirstie
Carruthers who successfully completed the Associations Intermediate
Stage of Accounting Technicians in the summer.
We would also like to congratulate Edward Park of Kendal
and Andy Mills of Newby who were the winners of the
Dry Stone Walling Competition, which we sponsor at Penrith Show.
Kirkby Stephen Prize Show
Rachel Marston represents O'Reilly's at the annual Prize Show and Sale
of Swaledale Ewes held at Kirkby Stephen Auction Mart on Friday 25th
September 2009 where the Champion was a Shearling Ewe from Ian Brown.
John McLaren
After many years of loyal service, John McLaren retired from the practice
on the 31st March 2009. John began working at our Carlisle office straight
from school in 1966 and became a partner in 1977. He will be missed by
the remaining partners and staff but we all realise he needs more time
to babysit his grandchildren, play golf and walk the fells.
O'Reilly's 75th Anniversary
This year (2009) marks the 75th anniversary of O'Reilly's supporting
business and personal tax clients in Cumbria and beyond.
Today the firm is a far cry from the small general practice started
by Mr. Noel T. O'Reilly in Penrith in 1934. We now have five offices
in Cumbria and North Yorkshire and over fifty staff, but we are still
committed to the original philosophy on which the firm was founded -
to provide a personal service to our clients.
We would like to thank all of our clients for their continued loyalty
and look forward to working together for many years to come.

We would like to congratulate two members of our staff, our receptionist Anna
Longrigg who gave birth to a baby boy, Keian William in March
and Elizabeth Moloney, trainee accountant, who also
gave birth to a boy, Oliver Samuel this month. Mothers and babies are
doing well.
We would also like to congratulate four of our trainee accountants - Magdalena
Cwik, Kirstie Carruthers and Rachel
Marston who have all passed their AAT second stage exams and Elizabeth
Moloney, who has passed her ICAEW Auditing and Financial Accounting
exam.

Lynne Sedgley has now qualified as an ACCA (Chartered
Certified Accountant).
Sarah Irving has passed the following papers in the
Institute of Chartered Accountants:-

- Audit
- Taxation
Sarah has further exams to sit during 2009.
Vicky Deeb, Laura Richardson, Magdalena
Marciniak and Kirstie Carruthers have successfully
completed their AAT Foundation exams.
Elizabeth Moloney and Hayley Fieldhouse are
now fully qualified AAT Technicians and are currently studying towards
ACA Professional Stage.

Centre.
Cumbrian Masters Pro-Am Golf Tournament
O'Reilly's have sponsored the Cumbrian Masters Pro-Am Golf Tournament
held in Keswick since its conception in 2007. Gary Lockerbie seen pictured
became the inaugural winner.
The event has also become part of our fundraising initiatives for charitable
organisations locally. The 2008 winner was Carlisle Professional Craig
Goodfellow.

The 2008 winner, Mr G Ibbottson, receiving the trophy from Gary Ritzema.
May 2008
We are delighted to announce that Sarah Irving from
our Carlisle Office, just 21 years of age has completed with distinction
the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) examinations.
Sarah finished the Financial Accounting Unit exam having scored the
highest marks in the country in her top-up paper winning the Carter Prize
in the ICAEW's Professional stage exams.
charity fundraising - Dec 2007
O'Reilly's have always been keen to fundraise for charities and an opportunity
to support a worthy cause occurred in the summer. A casino night was
held in aid of the "Pride of Cumbria" Air Ambulance and all proceeds
were presented to the fundraising team, an amazing total of £711. A big
thank you to all those generous souls, for your support on a wonderful
night.
