"You're Fired" - Television Show Blamed for Increase in Unfair Dismissals
- December 2007
The BBC television show, The Apprentice, is being blamed for the huge
increase in the number of employment tribunals, allegedly due to Sir
Alan Sugars blunt management approach being copied.
The renowned phrase from the show "You're Fired" has allegedly left
thousands of employers in expensive tribunal actions. It has been suggested
that the management style adopted during the show when telling contestants "You're
Fired" is to blame.
If employers do not follow certain procedures when they are terminating
employment it potentially leaves the door open for sacked workers to
take their businesses to court and claim unfair dismissal. Tribunal claims
have increased considerably over the last two years.
It is easy to misunderstand employment laws and it is essential that
all employers are aware of the laws regarding ending employment and that
there are procedures that they need to follow in order to comply with
legislation.
Advice should be sought by employers before any action is taken.
