Extension of Maternity Pay Period Delayed - Dec 2007
Plans to increase the period during which Statutory Maternity Pay is
provided from 39 weeks to 52 weeks have been delayed by one year.
Currently, a mother can have 12 months leave but only the first nine
months is paid. The government plans to extend that paid, period to the
end of the 12 months leave.
It was planning to extend the paid leave for babies due on or after
April 2009 but has now put back its plans for a year.
As well as Statutory Maternity Pay, Maternity Allowance and Statutory
Adoption Pay will also increase from 39 weeks to 52 weeks.
The intention is to also introduce Additional Paternity Leave and Pay.
