Uplands Entry Level Scheme - May 2009

The Uplands Entry Level scheme (UELS) is the 'replacement' for the Hill Farm Allowance. The plan is to launch it in 2010 making the first payments under the new scheme by January 2011.Entry to the scheme is conditional on participation in the Entry Level Scheme. The scheme is run along side ELS with applicants selecting options from both schemes. An uplands transition payment from 2011 will be put in place for those farmers who farm on land with an ESA or CSS agreement and who claim HFA in 2010. Payments are (per hectare):
